Jointly organised by the Institute of Crop Science, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), the Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), we are very pleased to announce that the 11th International Gluten Workshop will be held from Aug 12th to 15th, 2012, in Beijing, China.

Scientists from around the world are invited to present their breakthroughs in gluten research and other aspects of wheat quality. The dates of the Gluten Workshop were determined in consideration of the 14th ICC Cereal and Bread Congress held from Aug 6th to 9th, 2012 in Beijing.

The gluten workshop, initiated in 1980 by Pierre Feillet and Bernard Godon in Nantes (France), takes place every three years. Subsequent workshops were held in: Wageningen (the Netherlands) in 1984, Budapest (Hungary) in 1987, Winnipeg (Canada) in 1990, Detmold (Germany) in 1993, Sydney (Australia) in 1996, Bristol (UK) in 2000, Viterbo (Italy) in 2003, San Francisco (USA) in 2006 and Clermont-Ferrand (France) in 2009. It has become an internationally recognised event for scientists involved in gluten and wheat quality research in general.

Reflecting the significant advances made in genomic and other new technologies, and the shifts in quality research over the last ten years, the 11th International Gluten Workshop will place more emphasis on progress in genomics/proteomics and health aspects, while maintaining the traditional subjects of previous workshops. Gluten will remain the main subject, but other important fields, such as starch, grain hardness and colour, will also be included.
